The Explorer Mathematics materials aim to help primary school teachers to implement and evaluate learning experiences that will enable students to develop:
- A positive attitude towards Mathematics
- Problem solving abilities
- An understanding of mathematical language, concepts and processes.
The application of using mathematics in the context of relating it to marine life provides students the opportunity to develop:
- Mathematical concepts and processes where solutions can be found in a different context e.g. Ireland's marine resource
- Communication skills expressing mathematical ideas, processes and producing results in oral and written format
- Skills in using patterns and relationships in mathematics where students can reason, investigate and hypothesise
- An understanding of mathematical terminology, facts, definitions and formulae.
