The Marine Institute is pleased to announce the appointment of Bridget Moncrieff as its Short Sea Industry Liaison Officer. She will be based at the offices of the Irish Maritime Development Office in Dublin and will manage the activities of the Short Sea Sector. The appointment reflects the growing importance of the short sea shipping sector within the logistic supply chain in Ireland.

Commenting on the appointment Mr. Glenn Murphy IMDO Director said "We are delighted with Bridget's appointment to this new and challenging position. The office's role will fill an important strategic national gap and play an integral part in coordinating and developing the future requirements of the sector"

Bridget has 20 years senior experience in the Transport and Logistics sector both in the UK and Ireland in the areas of research, marketing and publishing. Her most recent role was as Editor of the British Transport Journal. Other positions include four years as senior market analyst with British Aerospace, the regional aircraft manufacturer and as marketing consultant with Bord Failte, the Irish Tourist Board.

A Graduate of UCG in English and Sociology, Bridget has a Masters in Transport Planning and Management from the University of Westminster. She also recently successfully completed a BA in Public Management.

End.

Note to editors:

The IMDO is Ireland's state agency dedicated to the marketing, promotion and development of the shipping service sector. It has been recently appointed the additional function of Short Sea Promotion Centre in line with EC policy in this area.

As an Island economy on the periphery of Europe and its major trading partners, it is imperative that the future demands, trends and opportunities in this area are co-ordinated and developed, to ensure Ireland's continued European economic competitiveness.

Short Sea Shipping is an environmentally friendly initiative to reduce the number of road miles, reduce bottlenecks and promote inter-modality and regional development of Short Sea routes.

The role of the Industry Liaison Officer (ILO) will fill an important Strategic National Gap and play an important role in co-ordinating and progressing the future needs of the sector.
