Date:  27 September 2004

The Marine Institute was presented with Excellence Through People Accreditation by Noel Treacy TD, Minister of State at the Department of Agriculture and Food, at a ceremony in The Shelbourne Hotel, Dublin on Friday 24th September 2004.

Excellence Through People is a FAS awarded accreditation, which is Ireland's national standard for human resource development. It has been welcomed and supported by employers, their staff, trade unions and government and has been awarded to 390 organisations to date.

"It is great to see the Marine Institute receiving independent recognition for Best Practice Human Resource standards. The award is a reflection of the team spirit, quality and dedication of the staff of the Marine Institute and we look forward to working together to ensure that we retain this prestigious accreditation going forward", said Dr Peter Heffernan, CEO, Marine Institute.

Mr Dermot Ahern TD, Minister for Communications, Marine & Natural Resources congratulated the Marine Institute on this achievement and commented "It is fitting the Institute has received this accreditation at an exciting and innovative time for the organisation. As a Government we are committed to creating a world class centre of excellence in Marine Research and Innovation in Ireland, building on the major infrastructure investments in two world class marine research vessels and the new Marine Institute HQ and laboratory development underway in Oranmore Co Galway."
