Bjorn the Polar Bear, larger that life naturalist Dale Tredwell from Naturally Wild and underwater photographer Vincent Hyland, who featured recently on RTE’s Living the Wildlife are all returning for the World Oceans Day celebrations at Galway Atlantaquaria on Sunday 30th May.
The Marine Institute, who are joint sponsors of this event with the Galway Atlantaquaria, are delighted to see the exciting line up of events and activities in recognition of the vital importance of the world’s oceans to life on this planet. “Bjorn and his handler Ursula provide a spectacular show where the audience can not only see and touch a realistic life-size polar bear that moves, but can learn interesting facts about their environment and the role humans can play in protecting the oceans,” said John Joyce, Communications Manager of the Marine Institute.
World Oceans Day in Galway will also be celebrating the 50th anniversary of the famous Dr.Seuss’ book One Fish, Two Fish, Red Fish, Blue Fish with story telling, arts and crafts and face panting. Demonstrations and exhibits will also include a display of the Real Map of Ireland – showing Ireland’s 220 million acre undersea marine resource, competitions, Explorer schools tank displays, ocean stamp collection, sushi cooking, mad marine science and much more.
Other participants include the Bow Waves, the Digital Enterprise Research Institute (DERI) - NUI Galway, Declan Devan, Environmental Change Institute - NUI Galway, Explorers Education Programme, Galway Bay Sailing Club, Galway Dive Club, Gary Ridge, Irish Seal Sanctuary, Irish Whale & Dolphin Group, St. Joseph's Boys School - Oranmore, Meadhh Ni Eadhra, Perks Funfair, RNLI Galway Lifeboat, Scoil Chaitriona - Renmore, The Fisherman Galway, Tim & Nuala Los Kaos, Western Regional Fisheries Board.
