Bjorn the The Polar Bear and his handler Ursula

Galway Atlantaquaria in conjunction with the Marine Institute and Failte Ireland/West will host the biggest World Ocean Day celebrations to date in Galway on Sunday 8th June 2008.  A family fun-day of excitement, activities and presentations have been organised which take place throughout the day at Galway Atlantaquaria in Salthill, Galway.

Colette Lavin from Galway Atlantaquaria said “there is a lot of excitement being generated with the activities and exhibits being organised for World Oceans Day in Galway.  Highlights will include the arrival of Bjorn the Polar Bear and his Shepherdess Ursula, an exhibit showing the extraordinary sagas and adventures of Shackleton's Antarctic Expedition and the Galway Lifeboat will be demonstrating a Helicopter Air-Sea rescue on the Bay”.

A number of other activities have been organised where children will also get the opportunity to make their own lighthouse with Forfas/Discover Primary Science & Engineering, have their face painted, meet Dale and his Dinosaurs and learn how to draw cartoons with Captain Black John from the Marine Institute. Other exhibitors also include The Irish Seal Sanctuary, the Irish Whale & Dolphin Group, Western Fisheries Board, Forfas - Discover Primary Science & Engineering, Galway Bay Sailing Club, Lets Do It Galway and much much more. Galway Atlantaquaria is also offering special World Ocean Day admission prices on the day.  For further information see www.nationalaquarium.ie or phone 091 585100.
