The Marine Institute employs almost 250 staff including scientists, IT specialists, technicians, and administrative support personnel. They are employed in seven Service Teams.
The Marine Institute is governed by a non-executive board originally appointed by the Minister for Communications, Marine and Natural Resources. The Marine Institute is currently responsible to the Department of Agriculture Fisheries and Food (DAFF).
Marine Institute staff are located at our Headquarters and Laboratory Facilities in Oranmore, Co. Galway, Offices at Harcourt Street Dublin, and Catchment Managment Research Facility in Newport, Co. Mayo as well as a number of fishing ports around the coast.
The Marine Institute has adopted codes of conduct in line with corporate governance guidelines, for both staff and the board of directors.
