The Marine Institute employs 182 staff with numbers reaching 200 during work experience programmes. Marine Institute staff include scientists, IT specialists, technicians, and administrative support personnel employed in five Service Teams.
The Marine Institute is governed by a non-executive board originally appointed by the Minister for Communications, Marine and Natural Resources. The Marine Institute is currently responsible to the Department of Agriculture Food and the Marine (DAFM).
Marine Institute staff are located at our Headquarters and Laboratory Facilities in Oranmore, Co. Galway, Offices at Harcourt Street Dublin, and Catchment Managment Research Facility in Newport, Co. Mayo as well as a number of fishing ports around the coast.
The Marine Institute has adopted codes of conduct in line with corporate governance guidelines, for both staff and the board of directors.
