The Explorer Mathematics materials aim to help primary school teachers to implement and evaluate learning experiences that will enable students to develop:
- a positive attitude towards Mathematics;
- problem solving abilities;
- an understanding of mathematical language, concepts and processes.
The application of using mathematics in the context of relating it to marine life, provides students the opportunity to develop:
- mathematical concepts and processes where solutions can be found in a different context e.g. Ireland's marine resource;
- communication skills expressing mathematical ideas, processes and produce the results orally and in written format;
- skills in using patterns and relationships in mathematics where students can reason, investigate and hypothesise;
- an understanding of mathematical terminology, facts, definitions and formulae.
