The Atlantic Challenge Bantry Bay Gig World Championship is a spectacular display of seamanship in which replicas of the "BANTRY BAY LONGBOAT",the oldest surviving vessel from the French Navy,are raced under sail and under oar.In July 2012 this biennial International event returns to its roots, to take place in Bantry Bay, WEst Cork, Ireland.Sixteen International crews with over 300 crew will take part in this week long competition.During the week the teams will compete in ten different events, displaying their abilities both on and off the water.
