The first annual Fish Health Seminar, organised as part of the AquaPlan project, takes place at the Marine Institute, Rinville, Oranmore Thursday 11th June 2009.
The seminar will explore new and emerging threats facing Irish fish farmers and take a look at management practices and lessons learned in other countries.
International speakers at the event will include Peter Østergård on how the industry in the Faroes Islands restructured following outbreaks of Infectious Salmon Anaemia (ISA), Chris Findlay, Fish Vet Group, on sea lice management in Scotland and Kevin Denham, CEFAS, on lessons learned following an outbreak of Viral Haemorrhagic Septicaemia in rainbow trout in England.
Issues such as biosecurity practices will also be covered with practical advice on optimising fish health.
This seminar is supported by funding under the Sea Change strategy with the support of the Marine Institute and the Marine Research Sub-Programme of the National Development Plan 2007-2013, co-financed under the European Regional Development Fund.
