The Ryan Institute for Environmental, Marine and Energy Research at NUI Galway, is hosting a series of seminars which will outline the research foci, strategy and strengths of our Institute. The series is being designed for anyone interested in engaging with the Institute and/or individual research clusters. The seminars will be informal, with overviews provided by the Institute’s Director Dr. Colin Brown and the relevant Research Activity Leader, followed by plenty of time for questions, discussion, and feedback. The series will begin on Friday February 11th, from 12 to 1 pm, in the Martin Ryan Annexe lecture theatre, and will continue on a weekly basis at the same time, in the same venue. This first seminar will be an overview of environmental, marine and energy research developments in the EU and nationally and how the Ryan Institute has prioritised its own research areas within this landscape. Each of the subsequent seminars will focus, in turn, on one of the Institute’s 6 Priority Research Areas or 3 Cross Cutting Thematic Activities. The schedule is as follows:

- February 18: Socio-Economics and Policy Cross-Cutting Thematic Activity; Dr. Henrike Rau
- February 25: Climate Change Priority Research Area; Prof. Colin O’Dowd
- March 4: Environmental Technologies Cross-Cutting Thematic Activity; Dr. Donal Leech
- March 11: Marine and Coastal Processes Priority Research Area; Dr. Robin Raine
- March 18: Energy Priority Research Area; Prof. Vincent O’Flaherty
- March 25: Modelling and Informatics Cross-Cutting Thematic Activity; Dr. Mike Hartnett
- April 1: Environment and Health Priority Research Area; Prof. Martin Cormican
- April 8: Sustainability and Built Environment Priority Research Area; Dr. Marcus Keane
- April 15: Biodiversity and Bioresources Priority Research Area; Prof. Mark Johnson
