In 1944 The Cooperative Wheat Research Production Program's goal, directed by Dr. Norman Borlaug, was to boost the production of wheat around the world. As a result, wheat yields nearly doubled in countries like Mexico, Pakistan and India between 1965 and 1970. These have been labeled the Green Revolution. As a result of increased food supply, Dr. Borlaug has often been presented as the savior of one billion people and in 1970 was awarded the Nobel Prize. World Aquaculture 2009 will take place in Mexico 40 years after Borlaug's research program, giving us the opportunity to remember that our aquaculture industry offers a great opportunity to develop a new "Blue Revolution" to feed the world. Sessions and workshops will cover all aspects of aquaculture in Mexico as well as the rest of the world. Broad topics include: - The Blue Revolution and Seafood Consumption - Crustacean Culture - Finfish Culture - Mollusc Culture - Other Species Culture (includes seaweed) - Sustainable Production systems - Economy and Marketing
