The Beaufort Marine Research Awards were launched in April 2007 by the Department of Communications, Marine & Natural Resources. The aim of the Awards is to significantly develop overall research capacity, particularly priority areas of marine research as outlined in Sea Change: A Marine Knowledge, Research & Innovation Strategy for Ireland.
Applications were sought from research groups wishing to develop their research capacity in any of the following five priority areas:

- Economic and Social Reseach related to Development Dynamics of the Marine Sector in Ireland (PDF, 61KB)

10 research groups/centres were successful in their bid for the Awards following evaluation by international experts. The funding from these awards will create over 140 new positions for researchers and students.
