As a complementary component to funding secured by the Integrated Marine Exploration Programme 2007 under the Government’s Strategy for Science, Technology and Innovation (SSTI), The Marine Institute recently offered students who are interested in marine research, the opportunity to undertake a research survey in Irish waters on board the national Research Vessel, RV Celtic Voyager “free of charge”!
Aim of Call:
The aim of the Bright Sparks competition is to introduce emerging scientists to the Marine Institute’s research vessel facilities and to provide experience in the following areas:
- Preparation and submission of research proposals;
- Design, planning and execution of scientific surveys;
- Analysis of survey data;
- Preparation of final survey report.
The successful applicant was Mr. Edward Farrell, University College Dublin for a survey titled "Benthic and demerdal assemblages on sandbanks in the western Irish Sea and potential impacts of offshore windfarms".
