The status assigned to a production area is based on the last sample supplied.
If the production area has not been sampled at the biotoxin sampling frequency
for that time of year for that species* it will be deemed closed on the expiry
of that period. This closed status will supersede the status given on the last
report from that area. Two samples taken at least 48 hours apart are required to
re-open an area that has been closed.
* Monthly for all bivalve species except Mussels (M.edulis) from sites within
Kenmare and Bantry Bay production areas which remain weekly.
