Furnace Weather Station Home Page

The Marine Institute and Met Eireann have jointly operated a manual weather station in Furnace, Newport, Co. Mayo for almost 50 years. In early 2005 this was upgraded to an Automatic Synoptic Weather Station and the data is supplied to the Marine Institute by Met Eireann on a daily basis.
The weather station provides important data for the general public and anglers and forms an essential part of the research carried out in Newport into salmonids and eels and their environment.

The data collected in the Furnace Automatic Station is supplied by Met Eireann and is  summarised in the data table below.
