Marine Research Capacity in the Higher Education Sector

In the Higher Education Sector, in excess of 70 research groups / teams, spanning across 12 Universities and 12 Institutes of Technology, carry out marine / marine-related research on the Island of Ireland. This includes researchers whose research focus is entirely marine and also teams who are engaged in marine-related research but whose research interests are wider (e.g. in more emerging areas of marine research such as marine biotechnology and marine technology). The following map provides an overview of these higher education institutions and links to the websites of individual research groups. Information on other North Atlantic Marine Research Centres/Groups can be accessed on the MarinERA/EurOCEAN website.

To use the map select the tick boxes to display the relevant icons on the map.  By placing the pointer over the icon, information will be displayed in relation to the icon.  The navigational keys can be used to zoom in and out as required.  The zoom function also allows users to view clusters of institutions.
