Project Summary
Over the past 50 years, a considerable dataset of environmental variables, including data from the adjacent Met Eireann Weather Station, has been collected from the Burrishoole catchment. This is an index catchment of international importance for migratory fish species, situated on the western fringe of Europe. The Burrishoole dataset, housed by the Marine Institute’s at their research facility at Furnace, Co. Mayo, will form the basis for assessing the future impact of changing climate on riverine and lacustrine habitats and species.
This project aims to combine downscaled climate scenarios with local environmental and hydrological parameters from the Burrishoole catchment, to provide predictions of future changes in a range of aquatic parameters and aid in the selection of key parameters for long-term monitoring of climate change impacts.
This project will increase the utilisation of Marine Institute environmental, meteorological and aquatic data sets in making prediction of future changes in the aquatic environment.
