Project Title:    "Develop and Test Through Simulation a Suite of Measures that will Contribute to Rebuilding Depleted Fish Stocks in Waters around Ireland".

Research Measure:    Industry Research Measure

Funding Type:           NDP Marine Research Sub-Programme

Year Funded:            2007

Project Duration:      84 months

Project Type:             Post Doctoral Fellowship

Total Grant-Aid:         €627,570

Lead Partner:            ZEPS, UCC, Co. Cork

Project Summary

This project aims to develop constructive operational approaches to rebuilding depleted fish stocks, as well as clearly establish the theory and rationale of such approaches.

The project will question and explore the current concepts of productivity and equilibrium in dynamical fishery systems, and develop new thinking - where applicable - on the practical strategies required to meet the goal of the Johannesburg declaration.  It is intended that several key scientific papers be produced on this subject.  The project will thus underpin the development of practical measures for the recovery and long terms sustainable management of depleted fish stocks such as Cod.
