"Spatial and temporal trends in discarding practices of the Irish Sea demersal trawl fishery – application in discard mitigation plans"

Research Measure:        Industry Research Measure

Funding Type:              NDP Marine Research Sub-Programme

Funding Year:              2008

Project Duration:         42 months

Project Type:                PhD Scholarship

Total Grant-Aid:            €105,000

Lead Partner:               Trinity College Dublin

Project Summary:

To quantify the spatial and temporal scale of discarding in the Irish Sea, describe the principal causes, and provide a structured framework to compare and contrast various management options to mitigate discards through a range of technical conservation measures.

This project will input to the consideration of appropriate discard management plans by provision of a structured evaluation framework.
