The Advanced Marine Technology Programme is part of Sea Change, Ireland’s marine research and innovation strategy.
The Advanced Marine Technology Programme seeks to:
- Create a critical mass, multi-disciplinary and industry-oriented research grouping in the area of advanced sensing, communications and informatics.
- Create a focused capability in the application of next generation technology solutions for marine and environmental sectors.
- Deliver innovative technology solutions to global markets.
SmartBay Innovation Testbed
SmartBay is a Test and Demonstration Platform for the development of products and services for marine related sectors. SmartBay is facilitating the development of innovative approaches to distributed sensing, communication and data management/visualisation technologies through deployment in a real world environment.
The infrastructure can be accessed by industrial and academic research groups for test and demonstration purposes.
SmartOcean Innovation Cluster
A key initiative of the Advanced Technology Programme involves the creation of a multi-disciplinary innovation cluster supporting the convergence of ICT and marine related sectors.
The vision is that, by the year 2020, Ireland will be recognised as a global leader in the development, test and commercialisation of the next-generation of innovative ocean technologies. Outputs of this cluster will include integrated approaches to distributed sensing, communication, data management, visualisation and forecast technologies for the development of a suite of intelligent decision based management tools for global marine related sectors including.
- Marine transport
- Security and logistics
- Aquaculture
- Environmental monitoring
- Water/resource management
- Security and Risk
- Marine Renewable Energy
A draft National Strategy for the development of the SmartOcean Innovation Cluster was recently launched for consultation
Recent Events:
“Towards a New Horizon: Harnessing Ireland’s Potential as a European and Global Centre for Ocean Technology” held on 22nd – 23rd March 2010 at the Marine Institute Headquarters, Galway.
