Wave Modelling

Our team simulates the propagation of swell and the development of wind generated waves using the computer model SWAN. This work is mainly associated with the development of wave energy devices in Galway Bay.

We have made comparisons of model predictions with WaveADCP measurements.

The models are driven by surface winds from Met Eireann with swell waves at the boundaries from a global wave model WW3 operated by FNMOC.

We are currently increasing the number of wave model domains to span the south and west coasts of Ireland.
