The Explorers Education Programme offers a range of inspiring short one-hour webinars for teachers and educators, introducing marine themes that support the primary school curriculum including literacy, maths, science, environmental awareness, and lots more.

Explorers Teachers Training Webinars tab

The Explorers teachers training webinars promote the use of fun and engaging Explorers resources, lessons and activities that are free for teachers to use. The webinars also provide interactive opportunities to network with the Explorers team, other educators and meet guest speakers who are experts in the marine.

A range of courses will be offered throughout the year which are supported by a number of the Education support centres. Check out the webinars below:

SLIGO EDUCATION CENTRE:

22nd February 2021: USING THE OCEAN TO GET CREATIVE WITH NUMERACY IN THE CLASSROOM

This course will outline creative ways of using the ocean to engage and motivate students with numeracy in the classroom. This will include looking at shapes and patterns with shells, using ocean pictures to explore spatial awareness, methods for exploring measurements on the seashore and in the outdoor classroom, and examining data to investigate the issue of marine litter for environmental awareness and case. This course will provide participants with creative ideas and teaching methodologies and provide updates on online content from www.explorers.ie.

1st March 2021: USING THE OCEAN TO GET CREATIVE WITH LITERACY IN THE CLASSROOM

This course will outline creative ways of using the ocean to engage and motivate students with literacy in the classroom. This will include using oral language to reflect on emotions and feelings connected to the ocean, exploring the use of scientific writing and reading for information, and using storytelling to develop emotion and imaginative development. This course will provide participants with creative ideas and teaching methodologies and provide updates on online content from www.explorers.ie.   

8th March 2021:  USING THE OCEAN TO GET CREATIVE WITH STEM IN THE CLASSROOM

This course will outline creative ways of using the ocean to engage and motivate students with STEM in the classroom to celebrate Science Week 2020. This will include how our actions can shape our ocean's future, how new technology can monitor and protect our ocean, how mathematics is needed to protect our ocean life, and now types of marine engineering are shaping our coastline. This course will provide participants with creative ideas and teaching methodologies and provide updates on online content from www.explorers.ie.
