Apply for Ship Time

The Call for 2022/2023 Shiptime is Open

RV Tom CreanApplications are currently being accepted for ship-time in 2022 and 2023 for the National Research Vessels (RV Tom Crean, RV Celtic Explorer and RV Celtic Voyager) and the ROV Holland I as well as the Marine Institute's Slocum Gliders “Laochra na Mara “ and “Aisling na Mara”.

Applications for ship-time for 2022 and 2023 on the RV Tom Crean, RV Celtic Explorer and the RV Celtic Voyager and the ROV Holland I must be submitted using Research Vessel Operations' online 'Survey Planning System' (SPS) by Thursday 16th September 2021. Please go to Survey Planning System for more information on this system and contact rv [at] marine [dot] ie (Subject: SPS Login Request) (Research Vessel Operations) to obtain a username and password if you don't already have one.

Each application will be reviewed and the applicant will be informed as soon as possible whether the ship-time they requested is available.  If the requested timing is not available, alternative dates may be offered.  The Vessel Charter Guidelines should be read carefully before submitting the Ship-time application form.

Applicants may seek grant-aid to cover all or part of the vessel charter costs for Research Surveys or Ship-Based Training Programmes in 2022.  For information on eligibility for grant-aid and how to apply click here

Closing Date for receipt of Grant-Aid applications is September 16th 2021 by 17:00. 

Applicants for ship-based training are advised to consult with the Strategic Marine Alliance for Research and Training (SMART). Please contact smart [at] gmit [dot] ie (Subject: Ship-Based Training) . SMART aims to standardise and optimise ship-based training for undergraduate and post-graduate students and develop nationally accredited ship-based training activities for national Higher Education.
