Galway Bay Sailing Club (GBSC) announce Kenny-Galway, main Volvo agents and the Marine Institute as the Sponsors for the Connacht Optimist Sailing Championships 2008 which is to take place at Rinville, Oranmore on the 24th and 25th May 2008. Over 100 boats are expected from all over Ireland to compete in the two day event.
Pierce Purcell, who has been involved with youth sailing for many years at Galway Bay Sailing Club, said "The Galway Bay Sailing Club is delighted to have the support of Mr. Brian Kenny, Managing Director of Kenny-Volvo and Dr Peter Heffernan CEO of the Marine Institute for their generous sponsorship and support of the Connacht Optimist Sailing Championship".
Paul O’Brien, Commodore of GBSC said "The two day event will see the accomplished and experienced sailors race out in the Bay under the stewardship of Race Officer Dave Vinnel, whilst the less experienced will race in the sheltered waters close to the club with race officers John and Adair Leech. Weather permitting, a series of 6 races will be sailed each day where the various fleets will make a great spectacle on the Bay. Many of these youngsters often sail in weather conditions that the hardened ‘old salts’ wouldn’t leave their mooring for and the club is delighted to have several of its own junior Optimist members compete in the Championships".
