EFSA was established to assess and communicate on risks associated with the food chain, thereby contributing to ensure food safety for Europe’s 500 million consumers. Cooperation with partners in Member States and internationally has been important since EFSA’s inception, and is a fundamental element of Strategic Objective 3 of EFSA’s Strategy 2020 – to build the EU’s scientific assessment capacity and knowledge Community11. Grants are an important tool for EFSA to support its scientific activities making use of risk assessment (RA) capacity at EU level. This initiative - the Partnering Grants - focuses on promoting the transfer or exchange of knowledge and expertise in risk assessment between organisations in different Member States, Norway and Iceland and, in this way, further building capacity at EU level. For the purpose of this grant, Capacity Building is defined as an initiative that leads to the strengthening of food safety risk assessment capacity of national organisations through the transfer or exchange of knowledge, skills, competencies and abilities between partner organisations.
