Ship-Time Programme 2022

The Marine Institute invites applications for grant-aid towards the cost of ship-time on-board the national research vessels R.V. Celtic Voyager, R.V. Celtic Explorer and new vessel Tom Crean during 2022. Grant-aid will be provided for ship-time to carry out:

Research

Research for ship-time in 2022 will be funded under the relevant themes of the National Marine Research & Innovation Strategy 2017-2021, which are detailed in the Guidelines for Applicants.

Applications will be accepted from research performing organisations (Higher Education Institutions, Public Research Bodies and Industry) on the island of Ireland to carry out ship-based research activity under these themes.

Applicants will be expected to demonstrate how the proposed work addresses national strategic priorities or EU/international legislative requirements within the above themes and to provide clear evidence of expected deliverables/outputs.

Collaborative and/or multi-disciplinary applications that fully utilise the research capabilities of the vessels are strongly encouraged.

OR

Dedicated Training Programmes

Applications will be accepted from Higher Education Institutions and Public Research Bodies on the island of Ireland, to provide dedicated undergraduate and/or postgraduate training programmes on-board the vessels.

Applicants are advised to contact the Strategic Marine Alliance for Research and Training, Galway-Mayo Institute of Technology who are responsible for coordinating national training for third-level students in marine-related science and technologies (email: smart [at] gmit [dot] ie) prior to submitting their application.

PLEASE READ THESE CAREFULLY BEFORE PROCEEDING.

N.B. There is a two-step process as follows:

1) Applicants must complete an online application for use of the ship via the Survey Planning System (SPS) and should take note of the application reference.

2) Applicants requesting funding must complete an online application for grant-aid funding (via the Research Information Management System (RIMS)), quoting the reference obtained from SPS.

The closing date for receipt of applications on RIMS is Thursday, 16th September 2021 at 17:00.

LATE APPLICATIONS WILL NOT BE ACCEPTED.
