Marine Institute

Shiptime

The Marine Institute operates the national marine research vessels (RV Celtic Explorer and RV Celtic Voyager), and associated research infrastructure, on behalf of the Irish Government and the Irish marine community. The Marine Institute provides annual grant-aid to researchers to access ship-time to facilitate research projects/programmes and further develop the national potential to carry out world-class multidisciplinary marine research. The Ship-time Programme also includes grant-aid to Higher Education Institutions within the island of Ireland, to provide dedicated undergraduate and/or postgraduate training programmes onboard the vessels under the Dedicated Training Programme. The Ship-time Programme is awarded through a competitive open call on an annual basis

Further details on research surveys which have received grant-aid funding are available from the Research Survey track. Please select the year you wish to view and select each specific survey from the dropdown list. Tracks are available from surveys funded from 2015 onwards.

Dedicated Training Programmes:
Grant-Aid funding is also available for Higher Education Institutions within the island of Ireland, to provide dedicated undergraduate and/or postgraduate training programmes onboard the vessels.

Applicants are encouraged to liaise with the Strategic Marine Alliance for Research and Training, Galway Mayo Institute of Technology who are responsible for co-ordinating national training for third-level student in marine-related science and technologies prior to submitting their application.

Applicants for ship-time grant-aid may also seek grant-aid to cover the cost of use of the Deepwater ROV(Holland I).
