Summary of the Role:

The Post-Doctorate Researcher will work closely with the Ecosystem Approach to Fisheries Management Principal Investigator and the co-PI and post doc based at Queens University Belfast (QUB). The main tasks will include working with stakeholders across a range of sectors including; fishermen, scientists, control and enforcement agencies, management bodies (local, national and international) and eNGOs, to develop the constraints and parameters of the innovative RTI management system. In this role the candidate will develop, with stakeholders, the main parameters and constraints of the management system. The post will also involve working closely with our partners at QUB to carry out the initial analysis and data assimilation of the fishery data (VMS, logbooks, observer records etc.) and the specification and provision of the data needs of the QUB models. The core of the task will be the translation of the requirements of the stakeholders to realisable algorithms that can be tested in the operational models being developed at QUB. The ultimate aim of the project, and for this post, is to design a pilot project in a real world fishery in Ireland or elsewhere. The candidate has the potential to be involved from concept to initial realisation. The candidate will be expected to report on the work to national and international partners, and to publish the work in the academic and general press. A full job description can be downloaded here.
