Scientific & Technical Officer (STO) – Observing systems (JERICO Next)

Summary of the Role:

The successful candidate will work within the Marine operations team as a Scientific and Technical Officer supporting Observing Programme Systems under the JERICO Next Programme. Main responsibilities will include providing support for technical elements of research and operational marine observation programmes, specifically surface platforms (wave buoys, weather buoys), and moored and vessel mounted sensor arrays.

Background to the Requirement:

 The Institute now requires a Scientific Instrumentation Technical Officer with an understanding primarily of either electronics or mechanical engineering , but with good general I.T. skills and an aptitude and interest in marine operations to support a range of infrastructural projects and programmes in OSIS relating to the JERICO-NEXT project. JERICO-NEXT is the coastal component of the European marine observing system funded by the EU Horizon 2020 program, recently extended from the EU FP7 project JERICO. JERICO-NEXT aims at extending the EU network of coastal observations developed in JERICO by adding new innovative infrastructures while integrating biogeochemical and biological observations. The main target of JERICO-NEXT is to provide the researchers with continuous and more valuable coastal data coupling physical and biological information by further developing, harmonizing and integrating nationally-funded marine observing systems, collecting physical, chemical and biological parameters from different platforms (ferryboxes, fixed platforms, gliders, HF radars, benthic systems, etc.). Duration of Contract:

The contract will be issued on a specified purpose basis for up to a maximum duration of three years, subject to funding with a 6 month probationary period.
