ERA-NET on International Coordination of Research on Infectious Animal Diseases (ICRAD)

The Department of Agriculture, Food and the Marine (DAFM) invites eligible Irish Research Performing Organisations (RPOs) to submit joint research proposals under the European Research Area Network (ERA-NET) Co-fund for International Co-ordination of Research on Infectious Animal Diseases (ICRAD) with a ‘One Health Approach to Zoonoses Research & Innovation’.  The Call contributes to the overall objectives of ERA-NETs to enhance European collaborative research between countries and thereby increase the quality of European research and innovation actions and their implementation in the agri-food-forest and bio based sectors.

This is a two stage competitive submission process:
The deadline for the submission of pre-proposals is 15th December 2021 (15:00 CEST).
Applications that are successful in the first stage of the competitive process will be invited to progress to the second stage by 15th April 2022.
For successful first stage applications the deadline for submission of full proposals will be 30th June 2022.
Projects are expected to commence in April 2023.

The goal of the Call is to support cross-cutting research and innovation in order to better understand zoonoses focusing on the animal-human-environment interface and by developing novel vaccine and diagnostics technology platforms to improve animal health and by consequence animal welfare.  Furthermore the overarching aim of the Call is to increase preparedness and improve the ability to respond to emerging & re-emerging zoonotic disease threats and contribute to improved animal and public health. This will be done through studies focusing on emergence & re-emergence of pathogens with zoonotic potential, understanding animal host-pathogen interactions and the immune response, and by developing detection and prevention platforms.

Research pre-proposal applications should address one of the two following research areas:
Research area 1:
- Improved understanding of animal-human-environment interface
- Pathogen (Re)-Emergence and Host Adaptation
- Host/Pathogen Interactions

Research area 2:
- Detection and Prevention
- Vaccine Technology Platforms
- Diagnostic Technology Platforms

The ERA NET ICRAD invites all interested potential applicants to take part in a webinar on Friday 8th October. The aim of the webinar is to explain the scope and rules of the call and help the applicants to use the online submission tool. Additional details including guidance for Irish applicants are available.
