Section Manager—Marine Spatial Planning Policy Support / MSP & MSFD Coordination

Summary of the Role:

This position is intended to provide spatial planning advice in relation to implementation of the MSP and MSFD Directives and matrix manage a team of scientists and data management experts in the delivery of products required under the MSP and the MSFD.  

 In our role as National Marine Data Centre, the Marine Institute collects and manages numerous data sets for a variety of purposes to support sustainable marine resource and environmental management on behalf of the public.  Many of these data sets can be represented spatially to support MSP while others are used to inform government on the environmental status of conditions in the marine environment based on European Union criteria of GES as defined under the MSFD.  The delivery of scientific products under MSP and MSFD are data intensive, and, at times, have overlapping data usage requirements for the same data and/or the use of similar data domain experts to support the data collection and analysis processes.  Coordinating the respective teams delivering on MSP and MSFD for the DHPLG and the Department of Agriculture Food and Marine (DAFM) requires an experienced practitioner with data and project management expertise, and strong communication and people management skills.    For further information, please download the job description here.

Duration of Contract:

The contract for this role will be issued on a specified purpose basis for up to the end of 2023. A 12-month probationary period will apply to this role.
