The Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA), through Ireland’s development cooperation programme, Irish Aid, and the Marine Institute (MI) have established ‘Our Shared Ocean’ to support research, knowledge exchange and capacity building in partnership with Small Island Developing States (SIDS). The programme runs from January 2022 to December 2026 with a total investment of €3.8 million funded by the DFA, and administered by the MI.

The SFI Fellowship Programme is now open for applications. This Programme aims to provide successful candidates with the opportunity to develop their career through experiencing first-hand, the diversity of activities carried out by a funding agency.

The closing date for applications is Tuesday 14th May 2024.

The Marine Institute is delighted to support the newly launched JPI Oceans Joint Call: Consequences of Changing Marine Lightscapes with a deadline for proposal submissions on 30 May 2024. This call pools national and regional financial resources totalling €3.7 million through the participation of funding organisations from seven countries. The Marine Institute is the national funder for Ireland under this call with a commitment of €250,000.

The SFI Industry RD&I Fellowship Programme 2024 Call is now open. This programme, run in collaboration with Enterprise Ireland and IDA Ireland, supports academic partnerships with industry. Grants can be awarded to academic researchers wishing to spend time in industry to support industry-informed research and the exchange of knowledge and expertise between academia and industry.
