MI EMFAF Overview

The European Maritime, Aquaculture and Fisheries Fund (EMFAF) is the fund for the EU's maritime and fisheries policies for 2021-2027. The Marine Institute is implementing three schemes: The Marine Institute is implementing three schemes: Marine Biodiversity, Marine Knowledge and Data Collection. The collection and use of biological, ecological and socioeconomic data is maximised by integrating across the three schemes, adding value to existing sampling programmes and developing multiple data products for different end-user and policy needs.

The Marine Biodiversity is established under Priority 1, Sustainable Fisheries and Sustainable Aquaculture of Ireland's Operational Programme (OP) and are co-funded by the Irish Government and EMFAF.
Marine Knowledge Scheme image
Marine Knowledge
The Marine Knowledge Scheme is established under Priority 4 (Strengthen Ocean Governance) of Ireland's Operational Programme (OP) under the EMFAF and is co-funded by the Irish Government and the EU. Priority 4 aims to strengthen international ocean governance and enabling seas and oceans to be safe, secure, clean and sustainably managed.
DCMAP - Data Collection Multi Annual Programme

Collection of fisheries data is an important part of supporting the delivery of the Common Fisheries Policy. We collect data through a comprehensive research vessel survey programme, port sampling of landings, sea sampling of discards, age profile of the fisheries resource, analyses of EU logbook and vessel monitoring systems data. The Data Collection Scheme is established under Union Priority 1 (Fostering sustainable fisheries and the restoration and conservation of aquatic biological resources) of Ireland’s Operational Programme co-funded under the EMFAF by the Irish Government and the EU.
