Explorers Publications for Teachers

The Explorers publications for teachers includes a selection of marine themed resources produced by the Explorers team to inspire and support teaching and developing ocean literacy in the classroom.

A range of books have also been selected to showcase Explorers projects completed by children that have taken part in the Explorers Education Programme.

OUR OCEAN - MARINE LEGENDS, FAIRY TALES AND FOLKLORE IN IRELAND

Our Ocean - Marine Legends, Fairy tales and Folklore in Ireland provides a selection of artwork and poems created by primary school children around Ireland. The artwork and poems are full of mythical glory and reflect the children's ideas and inspirations, influenced by local and well-loved stories in Ireland.

AN OCEAN OF STORIES

An Ocean of Stories - An Anthology of Children’s Ocean Stories is a collection of stories written by children for children. This project involved over 300 children from county Clare where they wrote about their own experiences intertwined with creative thinking, fact and some fantasy at times.

The Explorers team have created a series of books that can be used in the classroom. They can be printed, read on line, or used on the whiteboard as presentations. The books are great to use for marine projects and to share with your students.

The Explorers Teachers Planning Guides provide project and lesson plans covering a range of ocean themed projects and activities for the class that have been designed to support a cross curricular subjects. OCEAN LITERACY AND ENGAGEMENT - EXPLORERS PLANNING GUIDE FOR PRIMARY SCHOOLS TEACHERS

The booklet Explorers Planning Guide for Primary School Teachers - Ocean Literacy and Engagement provides teachers with ocean facts, evaluation tools and ideas for the classroom. The booklet provides ideas to develop ocean literacy in the classroom and school.

BUILD YOUR OWN UNKNOWN ART AND SCIENCE PROJECT - TEACHERS GUIDE

The Build Your Own Unknown Art and Science Project - Teachers Guide provides teachers with links to a selection of presentations, cross curricular lesson plans and activities that guides teachers through completing a 'Build Your Own Unknown' sculpture and short film project, inspired by the discovery of the Moytirra hydrothermal vents that were discovered 3000m at the bottom of the Mid-Atlantic ocean in 2011.

EXPLORERS AQUARIUM IN THE CLASSROOM - EXPLORERS PLANNING GUIDE FOR PRIMARY SCHOOLS TEACHERS

The booklet "Explorers Planning Guide for Primary School Teachers - Explorers Aquarium in the Classroom" provides teachers with an outline for planning lessons and projects while using a salt water aquarium, stocked with animals from the seashore in the classroom.

SEASHORE SAFARIS AND FIELD TRIPS - EXPLORERS PLANNING GUIDE FOR PRIMARY SCHOOLS TEACHERS

The booklet "Explorers Planning Guide for Primary Schools Teachers - Seashore Safaris and Field trips" provides teachers with an outline for planning an exciting and educational field trip to the local seashore.

THE SECRETS OF IRELAND’S SEAS

The teachers’ resource and lesson plans from The Secrets of Ireland’s Seas demonstrates the sheer fun of being involved in the exploration of Ireland’s seas. This book was compiled for the An Post’s Educational Award Scheme with the assistance of the Marine Institute.
