Wave Buoy Network
The Marine Institute, through the Marine Research Infrastructure section, maintains the Irish Wave Buoy Network. These buoys provide high resolution real-time data on wave conditions from their deployment locations. There are currently three permanently deployments of waveriders, located at Ireland’s two wave energy test sites AMETS, off the coast of Belmullet, Co.Mayo and at the SmartBay Test site off the coast of An Spidéal, in Galway Bay. These deployments are on behalf of the Sustainable Energy Authority of Ireland to support the development of marine renewable energy off the Irish coast. Several additional deployments in other locations take place each year in support of national and international research projects focusing on Ireland’s wave climate.
