Functional Food Research Deadline Approaching

The joint Marine Institute - Department of Agriculture and Food Marine Functional Foods Initiative information day was held on 9th May, 2007 at the Marine Institute, Oranmore, County Galway.

Proceedings from the event will be posted on the Marine Institute website on 14th May, 2007.

This research initiative will fund institutional-based research in support of the development of Ireland’s food and seafood sectors, and expand the base of Irish functional food research to include marine origin materials, and is designed to develop capability and create new additional capacity in marine functional foods and ingredients research.

The initiative will provide support to a consortium of research institutions to develop collaborative research, integrating experienced researchers from the areas of food, health, marine and ecological sciences under new scientific leadership.

The successful consortium will be required to deliver an integrated research programme that builds on its’ existing skills and expertise. The initiative will contribute €5.2 million over the period 2007 to 2013 to the successful consortium.  

The closing date for the receipt of submissions is 30th May, 2007
