Make SeaFest part of your 2018 plans

As we dive into a new year, it's the perfect time to plan some fun activities for the year ahead. One weekend not to be missed is SeaFest, taking place in Galway from 29th June to 1st July 2018.

SeaFest has quickly become one of the most popular summer festivals in Ireland, and the 2018 event will offer a host of exciting activities and attractions for all ages, on and around the water.

The three-day festival will cover all things marine – from seafood cookery to science, exploring the ships that transport us to discovering the creatures of the deep.

SeaFest is coordinated by the Marine Institute on behalf of the Marine Coordination Group, and the festival is supported by a number of local, regional and national agencies and organisations.

SeaFest is a key part of Harnessing Our Ocean Wealth: An Integrated Marine Plan for Ireland (HOOW) and its goal of increasing participation and engagement with the sea.

The ocean covers 71 percent of the earth's surface, and the ocean produces more than half of the oxygen we breathe. It supports diverse ecosystems and is a major influence on our weather and climate too.

Our ocean is a valuable source of food, a means of transport, and for the 1.9 million people who live within 5km of Ireland's coast our ocean offers many tourism and leisure opportunities.

The ocean affects our lives, no matter how far you live from the shore.
