The Marine Institute congratulates IMERC (the Irish Maritime and Energy Resource Cluster), on receiving the 2012 "Public Service Excellence Award" recently (Thursday, 21st June 2012) announced by An Taoiseach Enda Kenny in Dublin Castle.
The award was selected from the 190 applications in which Dr. Peter Heffernan, CEO Marine Institute applauded IMERC' achievement saying, "The award clearly highlights the opportunities for job creation and economic growth in the marine sector. It acknowledges the ongoing innovation, integration and collaboration currently taking place, and the importance of this, to the realisation of the economic potential of our marine resources".
IMERC is a unique tripartite alliance between the Irish Naval Service (INS), University College Cork (UCC) and the Cork Institute of Technology (CIT). It seeks to harness and integrate public sector and industry expertise to develop the Cluster and to realise the potential of emerging economic sectors, including the nascent ocean energy sector. Development of the worlds largest marine renewable energy research facility in Cork is currently advancing at an impressive rate.
