Marine Institute Wins Advertising Oscars

The Marine Institute topped 100 companies, taking the overall prize at the Excellence in Recruitment Advertising Awards. They won the award for the slogan "Fond of the Bed?" which was created by AFA O'Meara advertising.   The awards are in their 10th year and, according to Joe Webb, Group Advertising Director, Independent Newspapers, although they started off as a small offering, they are now "the most prestigious recruitment awards in the country".  Other winners included GlaxoSmithKline, Dublin Institute of Technology, Superquinn, O2, St John of God, and Shannon Aerospace. The awards were judged by industry experts, Michael McDonnell, President of the Chartered Institute of Personnel Development, Elaine Roddy, a representative of the National Recruitment Federation and Brendan Deasy from the National College of Art and Design.   "We were delighted to win the award in the Public/Semi-State category", said Dr. Peter Heffernan CEO, Marine Institute. "But taking the overall prize in these prestigious advertising awards illustrates our strong commitment to excellence in the delivery of our services, which is supported and strengthened by the recruitment of 26 new staff since our move to Galway last year".   The Marine Institute currently employs 80 people at its interim facility in Galway Technology Park and work is due to commence on the Marine Institute's new headquarters at Oranmore this summer where 150 staff will be based on its completion.
