Laboratory and Building Facilities

Image of Laboratory. Photographer Cushla Dromgool Regan.Our Headquarters in Oranmore, Co. Galway is an 11,000 square meter building with 54 laboratories and a unique crescent shape office facility. We also have a library specialising in marine publications and a 147-seater auditorium which is used for national and international marine science conferences and events. The building was designed by an award winning Office of Public Works team of architects and was completed in 2006. 

We also have a Catchment Research Facility located in Burrishoole Valley, Newport, Co. Mayo. Our Catchment Research Facility is one of the top natural laboratories in Europe where salmon data has been recorded for over 50 years.  

Our office on Harcourt Street, Dublin city houses the Irish Maritime Development Office and staff from other service areas in the Marine Institute.
