Organisation Description:

The Marine Institute is the national agency responsible for marine research, technology, development and innovation (RTDI). The Marine Institute seeks to assess and realise the economic potential of Ireland’s 220-million-acre marine resource; promote the sustainable development of marine industry through strategic funding programmes and scientific services; and safeguard the marine environment through research and environmental monitoring. The Institute works in conjunction with the Department of Agriculture, Food and Marine (DAFM) and a network of other Government Departments, semi-state agencies, national and international marine partners.

Summary of the Role:

The successful candidate will work with the Our Shared Ocean Programme Manager and the Research Funding Office team in PIRS as an Administrative Assistant (Executive Officer), with primary responsibility for supporting financial and administrative management for the new research programme Our Shared Ocean funded by the Department of Foreign Affairs/ Irish Aid (DFA).

Educational and Professional Requirements:

  • A third level qualification in a relevant discipline.
  • Demonstrate at least 18 months of post qualification work experience ideally to include project management, project support and / or financial tracking & reporting Strong organisational and administration skills with proven attention to detail.
  • Well-organised with experience in working to deadlines, managing priorities and time effectively.
  •  Excellent customer service skills.
  • Good verbal and written communication skills.
  • Demonstrated familiarity with research grant funding programmes.
  • Demonstrated ability in project reporting and record keeping, ideally including financial records.
  • Good working knowledge of IT systems and of relevant online data and information sources.
  • High level of computer skills including MS Office, in particular Excel, Word and PowerPoint.
  • Experience of supporting meetings, conferences and events.
  • The ability to work unsupervised and to work well with others.

Duration of Contract:

This temporary specified purpose contract of employment will be for the period up to the end of December 2026. The successful candidate will be on probation for the first six months of this contract.
