Organisation Description:

The Marine Institute is the national agency responsible for marine research, technology, development and innovation (RTDI). The Marine Institute seeks to assess and realise the economic potential of Ireland’s 220-million-acre marine resource; promote the sustainable development of marine industry through strategic funding programmes and scientific services; and safeguard the marine environment through research and environmental monitoring. The Institute works in conjunction with the Department of Agriculture, Food and Marine (DAFM) and a network of other Government Departments, semi-state agencies, national and international marine partners.

Summary of the Role:

The successful candidate will work within the Marine Research Infrastructures section as a Scientific and Technical Officer supporting the technical delivery of EU projects and programmes including the Horizon Europe project AMRIT, ANERIS, DIGI4ECO & TRIDENT as well as other EU and national projects supporting marine observing infrastructures initiatives. This will require attending project meetings and assisting with the wider team that MI project deliverables are met within the designated timeframe and budget. Among other responsibilities, the post holder is expected to provide technical assistance to project partners, provide high-quality reporting as needed, and provide input for proposals as requested.

Educational and Professional Requirements:

•    A degree in science, engineering, or a relevant scientific or engineering discipline
•    Post qualification work experience in a marine research or marine operations environment.
•    A strong understanding of marine scientific research methods and practices
•    A working knowledge of scientific marine equipment (e.g., ocean observation research infrastructures).
•    Previous experience in a technical support role with demonstrable experience in the following: 
o    The delivery of technical projects / service outputs. 
o    Documenting technical specifications.
•    Familiarity with providing oceanographic services to marine sectors e.g. ocean energy, advanced technologies, etc 
•    Demonstrated ability in project monitoring and reporting. 
•    The ability to work collaboratively with international partners.
•    The ability to work unsupervised with demonstrated ability to use initiative. 
•    High levels of I.T. skills to include Microsoft Office. 
•    Seagoing experience or sufficiently fit to pass an ENG11 medical.
•    Willingness to engage in outdoor work
