Team Leader - Data Services, SEAI Funded
Vacancy Area
Team Lead - Data Services, SEAI SLA
Organisation Description:
The Marine Institute is the national agency responsible for marine research, technology, development and innovation (RTDI). The Marine Institute seeks to assess and realise the economic potential of Ireland’s 220-million-acre marine resource; promote the sustainable development of marine industry through strategic funding programmes and scientific services; and safeguard the marine environment through research and environmental monitoring. The Institute works in conjunction with the Department of Agriculture, Food and Marine (DAFM) and a network of other Government Departments, semi-state agencies, national and international marine partners.
Summary of the Role:
The Sustainable Energy Authority of Ireland (SEAI) and the Marine Institute (MI) have been working in partnership on projects related to offshore renewable energy since 2009. The relationship has been formalised through a series of service level agreements (SLAs). The SLAs provide for the provision of research and development services which the MI carry out on behalf of SEAI, related to the delivery of the Department of Environment, Climate and Communications’ (DECC) national offshore renewable energy programme and related Government policies. The work under the SLA provides support across a range of services, however there is strong emphasis on the joint development and operation of the SmartBay facility in Galway Bay which supports the development of emerging wave, floating wind, and associated technologies.
At the national programme level, increased joint research and development activities will be undertaken by MI, SEAI and DECC to significantly contribute to the evidence base available to DECC for the long term, sustainable and planned development of Ireland’s immense wind, wave and tidal renewable energy resources through the National Spatial Strategy for Offshore Renewable Energy.
