The Explorers Education Programme offers a series of face-to-face and blended learning teachers training courses approved by the Department of Education & Skills for primary school teachers.

Exploring Ireland’s Seashore through Science, Maths, Geography, English and Art, the Explorers Education Programme Summer Teacher Training Course 2022

The courses will be run through five Education Centres around Ireland note below.

The course will take place between the 4th – 8th July in local venues and on the seashore.

Certification: This course is approved for E.P.V. certification by the Department of Education & Skills

Information & Enrolment: The course will focus on using the marine environment through cross-curricular activities to support teaching and learning in the primary school classroom. It will explore scientific methods and techniques in the classroom and during fieldwork. Teachers will examine a range of practical inquiry based exercises. They will integrate literacy and numeracy into a number of lessons which focus on Ireland’s ocean and sustainability. The team will also reflect on environmental awareness and care of our ocean and discuss topics and techniques for covering climate change, marine litter and other current environmental topics with their students.

Teachers should bring water proof footwear and clothing for seashore fieldwork which will be carried out throughout the course.

Lunch will be provided daily.

Exploring Ireland’s Seashore through Science, Maths, Geography, English and Art CPD online training course

The Explorers Education Programme online course is run with the support of the Mayo Education Centre.

This course runs from Monday 4th July - Friday 19th August.

Registration is now open and the last date for registration is Wednesday 17th August. 

Access to the course closes at 5pm on 19th August for all participants.

Certification: This course is approved for E.P.V. certification by the Department of Education & Skills

Information & Enrolment: The course aims to provide engaging activities, resources, and support for teachers to incorporate marine content through Science, Maths, English, Geography, and the Arts curriculum.

By learning about the ocean literacy concepts; enabling us to understand the influence of the ocean on us and our influence on the ocean; as well as supporting engagement with the UN Sustainable Development Goals 12 and 14, teachers will be able to incorporate marine themes with a range of primary subjects and learning methodologies.
