Applications open for Fulbright-Marine Institute AwardApplications are now open for the Fulbright-Marine Institute Award which offers a unique opportunity for an Irish PhD candidate or scholar to travel to the USA to conduct research in the fields of marine science of marine-related business sector.

The Fulbright-Marine Institute Award offers an Irish or EU citizen the opportunity to complete a PhD or Masters at a USA institution for a period of three months up to one year. The successful candidate will receive a significant monetary grant, accident and emergency insurance, visa administration, cultural and professional programming, and introduction to a vast international professional and academic network.

Dr Niall McDonough, Director of Policy, Innovation and Research Support Services at the Marine Institute said, "The Fulbright-Marine Institute Award offers passionate and accomplished students and scholars the opportunity to collaborate with experts in the USA and establish important academic relationships for future research collaborations. The Institute has supported the Fulbright Awards since 2013, which have assisted students with their progression as early-career researchers while also increasing Ireland's marine research capacity and performance."

Applications from candidates exploring the following fields are welcome: marine sensor technologies and observation systems, maritime economics, marine spatial planning, maritime law and security, renewable ocean energy, marine biotechnology, marine environment, oceanographic modelling, shipping, seafood safety, ecosystems-based fisheries management, big data and sustainable development.

The Marine Institute and Fulbright Commission are seeking applicants with academic and personal excellence and strong leadership potential.

The Fulbright Commission in Ireland annually awards grants for Irish citizens to study, research, or teach in the USA and for Americans to do the same in Ireland. Since its formation over 2,000 postgraduate students, scholars, professionals, and teachers have participated in the program between the U.S. and Ireland.
