Art Meets Science in Unique Benefit Concert

The Marine Institute takes great pleasure in hosting the Galway Science & Music School concert, "Music of the Sea" in aid of the Galway Lifeboat, at its Oranmore Headquarters on Wednesday 13th June at 8.30 p.m.

The event was born last Easter, when a group of young students undertook a unique education course combining science and music.  This included not only a week of field trips to the seashores around Galway under the guidance of Nora Bourke, an enthusiastic young GMIT scientist, but also coaching in many native nautical tunes by the well known Oranmore based musicians Tommy Keane and Jacqueline McCarthy.

The young students will display the their musical talents next Wednesday as part of a musical experience that will be complemented by a wonderful crew of well known musicians – Tommy Keane, Jacqueline McCarthy, Marion McCarthy, Johnny Giles, Mary Staunton, Jerry Mulvihill & friends.

“All proceeds from the concert will go to the Galway Lifeboat and this completes what is really a unique and wonderful project”, said Bernard Kirk director of Galway Educational Centre, who hosted the course.

Tickets are available from Marine Institute, Galway Educational Centre, CEECC Letterfrack.  Tickets cost Є10.   Please note that places are strictly limited, and tickets should be purchased prior to the event.
