Maximising the Value of our Maritime Resource Seminar

The Association of Irish Regions logo is holding a seminar as part of the European Union’s OPEN DAYS 2011 at the Marine Institute on Friday 21st October. The seminar “Maximising the Value of our Maritime Resource” will address the potential that the maritime sector offers in terms of promoting economic development, stimulating national recovery and maximising the value of the indigenous coastal and marine resources that are available to Ireland.

In the context of the European Union’s Integrated Maritime Policy and the proposed Integrated Strategy for the Atlantic Area, the seminar will discuss how local and regional authorities and other relevant stakeholders can sustainably exploit the potential that the maritime sector possesses.

Speakers will include: Mr. Simon Coveney, T.D., Minister for Agriculture, Marine and Food (TBC); Dr. Peter Heffernan, CEO, Marine Institute; Mark Griffin, Assistant Secretary, Department of the Environment, Community & Local Government; Ms. Patricia Potter, Director, Dublin Regional Authority; Mr. Séamus Neely, Donegal County Manager; Mr. Liam Conneally, Director, Mid-West Regional Authority; Mr. James Tedd, Project Manager, ESBI Ocean Energy; Mr. Tom Byrne, Director, South-East Regional Authority & Honorary Secretary to the Association of Irish Regions.
