National Consultation on FP8 (2014-2020)

The EU Framework Programmes for Research and Technological Development have, to date, been the European Union's chief instrument for funding collaborative research. Between 2007 and 2010 for example, Irish marine research groups and SMEs drew-down over €23.9 million in grant-aid in projects valued at over €295 million. This included support for 60 new Irish researcher posts, 22 technician and other support staff and seven PhD scholarships.   

Preparations for the 8th Framework Programme 2014-2020 (FP8) and the new Common Strategic Framework for Research and Innovation are now underway and priorities are being discussed at national and European levels. Ireland has an opportunity to input to the direction and balance of European research by submitting its views now.

The Advisory Council for Science, Technology and Innovation(http://www.sciencecouncil.ie) supported by Forfás, has been asked by the Department of Enterprise, Trade and Innovation (DETI) to lead the national consultation process which will result in a national position paper.  

In early February 2011, the European Commission released a Green Paper entitled “From Challenges to Opportunities: Towards a Common Strategic Framework for EU Research and Innovation Funding”.

On foot of this paper, ACSTI is consulting with the Irish research and enterprise communities and is now seeking your views on its draft response to the 27 questions posed by the Commission. Please submit your views to the Council using the survey accessible via the following link: https://www.surveymonkey.com/s/National_Consultation_Eighth_Framework_Programme 

Please remember that there are 27 questions so the survey may take you several minutes, or even an hour, to complete depending on your level of familiarity with the topic.As not all computer systems will allow you to save the survey and return to it, you may wish to type any comments into a separate document and paste them into the survey. Please note that there are size limits to the amount of text you can include (10 lines x 100 characters).  

Submissions must be received not later than Friday 15 April 2011.
