New Chairperson appointed to the Marine Institute
The Minister for Agriculture, Food and the Marine, Martin Heydon TD announces the appointment of Mr Martin Sisk as Chairperson for the Marine Institute for a five-year term.
Announcing the appointment, Minister Heydon said, “I am very pleased to appoint Martin Sisk as Chairperson of the Marine Institute. Mr Sisk brings exceptional skills in corporate governance and business leadership, as well as knowledge and drive to this critically important role. I am confident that under his guidance, the Marine Institute will continue to advance its critical work in marine science, policy support and the development of Ireland’s marine sector.”
Responding to the appointment, Minister of State for Fisheries and Marine Timmy Dooley T.D. said, “I am pleased to acknowledge the appointment of Mr Martin Sisk as Chairperson of the Marine Institute. Mr Sisk’s distinguished record in governance, regulatory affairs, and public service will greatly benefit the Institute as it continues its essential work in advancing marine science, supporting sustainable fisheries, and contributing to the development of Ireland’s blue economy. I look forward to the leadership and strategic insight he will bring to this important role.”
Mr Martin Sisk said, “I am honored to be appointed as Chairperson to the Marine Institute, an organisation that plays a vital role in supporting the sustainable development of Ireland’s marine resources through science, research, and innovation.”
“The Marine Institute is widely respected for its scientific and developmental functions, as well as its contribution to employment and economic growth in the seafood and maritime sectors. I look forward to working with the Board and the staff to build on this strong foundation and to further the Institute’s mission in advancing Ireland’s marine potential,” Mr Sisk added.
Welcoming the appointment, Dr Rick Officer, CEO of the Marine Institute said, “Martin Sisk brings a wealth of experience and insight to the role. His leadership will be instrumental as the Marine Institute continues to deliver trusted scientific advice and services that inform government policy and support Ireland’s marine resources.”
Martin Sisk has over 25 years of regulatory and business-related experience. A qualified solicitor, he served as a senior official in the Central Bank of Ireland and as Registrar of Friendly Societies, where he was responsible for the oversight of agricultural and fisheries co-operatives. He has previously served as Chairperson of VHI Healthcare and the Irish Auditing and Accounting Supervisory Authority (IAASA), and as Interim Chairperson for the State Examinations Commission in 2024. He currently serves as a board member of Drogheda Port Company.
