The Explorers Wild about Wildlife on the Seashore Resources include short films, species information sheets, activity and worksheets for children, workbooks, fun facts and lots more.  The resources may be used in preparation for a fieldtrip to the seashore. They may also be used to support completing cross curricular activities and projects in the class.

Join the Explorers team as they investigate the diversity of the animals that can be found in the sand, amongst the seaweed, under rocks and in the rockpools.

The Explorers team discover some amazing fish on the seashore – that come in all shapes and sizes, from the flatfish to the common blenny! Join the team to learn more about how these animals all have amazing fishy features that help them survive the harsh seashore environment.

The Explorers Wild about Wildlife on the Seashore Information Sheets include lots of interesting facts about thirty of our favourite seashore shellfish, crustaceans and fish. The sheets are split into species, so you can pick and choose which animals you would like to learn more about in the class.

The sheets include photos of the animals, English, Irish and scientific names, as well as quick facts including size, colour, lifespan, and information about the animals’ habitats, their special features, who eats who and lots more.

The Explorers Wild about Wildlife on the Seashore worksheets and activity sheets provide an opportunity for the students to investigate and carry out further scientific discovery, as well as produce artwork and creative writing inspired by the seashore. The My Explorers Seashore Guide Workbook (available in English and Irish) can also be used by the students to create their own scientific information book about the seashore.

MY EXPLORERS SEASHORE GUIDE WORKBOOK 

My Explorers Seashore Guide Workbook is available in English and Irish. It provides children the opportunity to record their observations, explorations and discoveries on the seashore. The book supports a range of subjects on the primary school curriculum including science, geography, art, English and ICT.

Children can start creating their own Seashore Guide before going to the shore. Other activities can be completed after the seashore safari, including documenting the sand type, seaweeds and animals found on the shore. Activities also include taking photos, being a citizen scientist with Explore Your Shore!

In Ireland we are surrounded by so many different types of beaches ranging from sandy to shingle shores, as well as mudflats to rocky shore lines. This makes it an extremely exciting place to explore all of the amazing animals, seaweeds, plants and creatures that live there. The Wild about Wildlife on the Seashore presentations can be used in the classroom to help teachers and children with their scientific discovery, learning more about the animals on the Irish seashore.
